Where People Trust Each Other Most (And Least) In The World

Where People Trust Each Other Most (And Least) In The World

This visualization, via Visual Capitalist’s Bruno Venditti, shows the share of people across 25 countries who believe that “most people can be trusted,” offering a snapshot of how trust varies around the world.

The data for this visualization comes from the Pew Research Center. It is based on nationally representative surveys of more than 37,000 adults conducted in early 2025.

High Trust in Northern Europe

Northern European countries dominate the top of the ranking. Sweden leads the list, with 83% of respondents saying most people can be trusted. The Netherlands follows closely at 79%, while Canada and Germany both exceed 70%.

These countries tend to have strong institutions, low corruption, and robust social safety nets. High levels of trust make cooperation easier, reducing friction in economic and civic life.

Divided Views in Major Economies

Several large, high-income economies fall closer to the middle of the distribution. In the United States, 55% of people say most people can be trusted, while 44% say they cannot. The UK, Japan, and South Korea show similar splits, with trust still outweighing distrust, but by narrower margins.

Low Trust in Many Middle-Income Countries

Trust levels are substantially lower across most middle-income countries in the survey. Turkey ranks last overall, with just 14% saying most people can be trusted. Mexico, Kenya, and Brazil also report trust levels below 25%.

In these countries, respondents are far more likely to say that most people cannot be trusted. Pew notes that lower income levels and less access to education are closely linked to reduced trust. Economic insecurity and weaker institutions may make people more guarded in their interactions.

Chicago Bears clinch their 1st playoff spot since 2020

For the first time since 2020, the Chicago Bears are officially playoff-bound.

The Bears clinched a playoff spot Sunday thanks to the Detroit Lions’ 29-24 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The combination of a Bears Week 16 win — in epic fashion thanks, to DJ Moore’s overtime touchdown — against the Green Bay Packers on Saturday night and a Lions loss on Sunday was enough for the Bears to lock up their spot in the postseason.

The franchise’s last playoff appearance came after an 8-8 regular season in 2020. That year, the Bears earned the No. 7 seed in the NFC and lost a wild-card round game to the New Orleans Saints.

Improbable win puts Chicago Bears in control of the NFC North: Brad Biggs’ 10 thoughts on Week 16

In year No. 1 under new coach Ben Johnson, the Bears have gone from 5-12 and last place in the NFC North division a year ago to 11-4 and in control of the division.

The Bears haven’t clinched the NFC North yet, but the only path for the Packers (9-5-1) to win the division is if they win both of their final two games (against the Baltimore Ravens and Minnesota Vikings) and the Bears lose both their final two games (against the San Francisco 49ers and Lions). If the Bears win next week in San Francisco, they will lock up their first division title since 2018.

Winning the division would guarantee the Bears a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

If the Bears do win the division, they’re most likely looking at the No. 2 seed in the NFC. Even if they end up with the same record as Philadelphia (the current No. 3 seed at 10-5), the Bears have the head-to-head tiebreaker against the Eagles thanks to their win on Black Friday.

Chicago makes an unofficial audition for a future PWHL team in league’s tour stop: ‘An excellent hockey city’

One team was a crowd favorite in Rosemont on Sunday. It wasn’t the Chicago Wolves, the normal home team at Allstate Arena, but one that had fans were wearing purple sweaters as they transferred from the cold outside to the cold inside.

The Minnesota Frost play their home games about five hours away from Chicago, but that didn’t stop a layer of Frost jerseys from spreading its way across the lower bowl of the stadium. Player announcements, especially for Frost captain Kendall Coyne Schofield, were met with a roar from the crowd.

The Professional Women’s Hockey League made its first stop in the Chicago area on Sunday as a part of the league’s Takeover Tour. It was the second of 11 cities to host the tour this season.

The event started with Chicago area natives Coyne Schofield and Charge left winger Taylor House — who entered the stadium wearing a Connor Bedard Blackhawks sweater — in the ceremonial faceoff before the Charge won 3-2 in overtime. The pair said they felt the love from their home area.

“It’s huge anytime you get to play in front of your home fans,” House said. “Getting this chance to grow the game here, it’s pretty special to see them turn out for us.

Added Coyne Schofield: “I thought about it today what it would have meant if I had the opportunity to come here as a 10-year-old little girl to see this and dream about it. (It was) special today to see the arena filled with boys and girls knowing that they now will have that same dream to grow up and be a professional hockey player.”

Sunday was the city’s unofficial audition for a PWHL team in a possible future expansion. The announced crowd of 7,238 was smaller than expected, but the fans’ energy may have made enough of a case.

“Chicago is an excellent hockey city,” said Josh Pitterle, wearing a Taylor Heise Frost jersey. “Chicago needs a team for the PWHL in the upcoming expansion.”

Each fan had their own stories about how they began watching the PWHL. Some are seeing the league for the first time while other have been actively following their favorite teams.

“I’m an American fan and I’m from the Boston area,” said Heather Darrah, wearing a Jocelyne Larocque Charge hoodie. “(The Charge) stole my heart during last year’s playoff run (with their) underdog story.

“I’m like, OK, come on. I love you guys.”

Die-hard Frost fans traveled from Minnesota to see their back-to-back Walter Cup champions in action. For them, the league is a breath of fresh air in the hockey world.

“I didn’t care about hockey until the women’s league was founded,” said Shannon Doty, wearing a Lee Stecklein Frost sweater, said. “(I) found out there was a league, (so) of course I’m going to support it because it’s women’s sports.

“Then, I learned that I actually really like hockey. I tell everybody I can (that) there’s a women’s professional hockey league right now.”

Though the crowd was smaller than previous Takeover Tour events, the love for hockey was evident in the Allstate Arena. Fans watched eagerly as the Frost and Charge went back and fourth for more than minutes.

The Charge opened the scoring with a power-play breakaway from defender Ronja Savolainen, who launched a snipe that zoomed past Frost goaltender Nicole Hensley. Charge netminder Gwyneth Philips had 41 saves on the night, including a glove save that kept Ottawa’s lead 1-0 after the first 20 minutes.

“We’re very fortunate to have her in our organization, she’s just a hoot,” Charge coach Carla MacLeod said of her goaltender. “She’ll hold us within games and give us the opportunity to find her feet and get some points.

Defender Mae Batherson tied the game at 2-2 for the Frost at the 3:56 mark in the third period. It was her first goal in the PWHL.

“I’ve been waiting a bit for that,” Batherson said. “When it finally went in, I was pretty relieved and it gave us a chance.”

In an intense overtime period, right winger Sarah Wozniewicz sent a laser from the blue line to give the Charge the 3-2 win. It was a picture-perfect shot for the Wisconsin alum.

“I still can’t believe the puck went in,” Wozniewicz said. “It’s so awesome having Wisconsin fans here from being so close to the university.”

The PWHL game was fast-paced with a gold mine of scoring chances. The scuffles and hits were there, but so were the phenomenal saves and the aggressive shooting.

Exactly what hockey fans are looking for. And it was precisely what the Rosemont crowd wanted.

“You can see the energy the whole game with the plays and how they react to (Kendall Coyne Schofield’s) name,” House said. “Chicago is excited for hockey and I think that really showed today.”

It differs from the NHL. The record system is different (0-0-0-0 system) and there are not as many substitutions, among other things.

“It opens up a different avenue and it’s a different type of hockey,” fan Mike Collins said. “Here, it’s a lot more technical.”

“There really is a demand that we want to show up and we want to be pro fans,” Darrah said. “I hadn’t gone to any hockey games until a year and a half ago, now I’m all in.”

PWHL players don’t have the power to create expansion teams, but they wouldn’t say no to a team in Chicago.

“I think it was a win for the sport (and) was a win for society,” Coyne Schofield said. “(I’m) so proud to be able to be a part of bringing women’s professional hockey here to Chicago.”

Added MacLeod: “You just saw what the PWHL is all about. These women are absolutely elite in what they do, they’re the best in the world at being hockey players. It’s so fun to come to new communities that maybe haven’t been exposed to it yet.”

The Frost and Charge posed on the ice for photos after the final horn before exiting the rink to sign autographs. There will be another PWHL game in Rosemont on March 25, but the league made a good first impression on Chicago, while the city did the same for the league.

“From the Ottawa Charge to everyone … thank you for investing in us and investing in this league and taking your time today,” MacLeod said.

Ofrecer pagar algunos servicios

Somali ‘Medicaid Mogul’ Accused Of Looting Maine Taxpayers, Family Allegedly Put Bounty On Reporter

Somali ‘Medicaid Mogul’ Accused Of Looting Maine Taxpayers, Family Allegedly Put Bounty On Reporter

If you thought the alleged Medicaid fraud in Minnesota by Somalis, which federal prosecutors say could reach $9 billion, was insane, wait until you read the latest report from The Maine Wire: the head of a local nonprofit is accused of lashing out at a local journalist over an investigation, while members of his family allegedly put a bounty on the head of a journalist in Somalia for sharing the reporting.

Related note: this picture has never appeared in one of the major newspapers in Maine. I’m not sure if any other outlet has published it. pic.twitter.com/dVQ2j1cAgc

— Steve Robinson (@SteveRob) December 21, 2025

Earlier this month, Abdullahi Ali, the Executive Director of Health Services contractor Gateway Community Services, was accused of ripping off taxpayers.

Public forensic investigation into Gateway Community Services has revealed this…

NewsNation spoke with a whistleblower who spilled the beans: false records were filed for services that were never provided…

A former Gateway employee, Christopher Bernardini, said the nonprofit was reimbursed with tax dollars from Maine’s Medicaid program and later with federal tax dollars from the Paycheck Protection Program.

While heading up the nonprofit in Maine, Ali was also running for President of Jubbaland in Africa. He boasted to a Kenyan media outlet about how he helped raise funds for the Jubaland Somali army to buy guns and bullets.

Here’s another video of Medicaid mogul Abdullahi Ali, a top ally of Gov. Janet Mills and Shenna Bellows, talking about how he plans to use the militia he bankrolled in southern Somalia.

Gateway Community Services said it was racist to describe him as a “wannabe warlord.” pic.twitter.com/dkhbGgzROl

— Steve Robinson (@SteveRob) December 20, 2025

Main Wire’s Steve Robinson pointed out that Ali “threatened to murder a journalist in Somalia who shared our reporting.”

Robinson continued:

Gateway Community Services CEO Abdullahi Ali yesterday attacked me personally, and now his fellow clan members — his son and cousin — are threatening to murder a journalist in Somalia who shared our reporting. Why does Gov. Janet Mills continue to fund this organization with MaineCare dollars and no-bid contracts? And why are Democrats cravenly smearing the character of anyone who exposes fraud or calls out corruption?

Abdullahi Ali’s son and cousin are openly placing bounties on a Somali journalist’s head and calling for his killing. All because they’ve helped shine light on Ali’s migrant agency over-billing MaineCare (~$800k per DHHS) and the fraud allegations made against his company. Ali’s former employee has made credible and detailed allegations of systematic fraud. This employee has shown great courage by revealing how Ali allegedly directed his company to invent fake MaineCare claims and defraud the taxpayers of Maine.

Ali has never denied these allegations. Instead he has attacked me. Now his allies in Jubaland are calling for violence against journalists for exposing the truth, while his allies in Maine turn a blind eye or smear the reporters and politicians exposing fraud and corruption.

Attorney General Aaron Frey refuses to investigate credible allegations of fraud against Gateway. Instead, the thugs in the Mills Administration had the whistleblower audited. Imagine that! Exposing corruption, at great personal risk, only to have the Mills Team pull a mafia tactic and sic Maine Revenue Services on you.

Democrats are not only defending this behavior from the migrant NGO complex, many of them are part of it. Rep. Deqa Dhalac worked at Gateway as Assistant Executive Director while the alleged fraud was happening. So did Rep. Yusuf Yusuf. Shenna Bellows fundraised this summer with Safiya Khalid, former special assistant to Abdullahi Ali. Ekhlas Ahmed, a former Gateway employee, runs the “Office of New Americans” for Janet Mills.

Gov. Janet Mills has the authority to stop payments to Gateway, but instead she has issued them no-bid contracts. Hundreds of thousands of dollars that could have gone to Maine schools or to low-income Mainers are instead funneled into Gateway Community Services and other migrant NGOs.

Why?

Because Gateway’s offices in Lewiston and Portland are basically arms of the Maine Democratic Party. Those offices host vote harvesting operations that recruit migrants into welfare programs and supply Democrat votes — all paid for with tax dollars.

For those who care to pay attention, all the receipts, the contracts, the documents, and the evidence is contained within the Substack post below and the linked posts.

“Is this the type of diversity we wanted here in Maine. Are you f*cking liberals happy?” one perturbed resident said on TikTok.

In a recent interview with The National News Desk, Maine State Sen. Matt Harrington said, “It’s disgusting to me that they would do this.”

You can’t rob a bank for millions of dollars. You shouldn’t be able to rob taxpayers of millions of dollars and get away with it. There absolutely needs to be a criminal investigation into this immediately,” Harrington said.

From Minnesota to Maine … What Democratic-run state will be next where investigations uncover appalling allegations of public resources being looted by migrants?

The parallels between Minnesota and Maine are so eerie.

In both states, there can be zero trust that DHHS and the Gov aren’t an extension of criminal orgs siphoning money from welfare.

Only federal intervention can end this culture of fear and retribution. https://t.co/Odm22ycavC

Daily Horoscope for December 22, 2025

General Daily Insight for December 22, 2025

A fresh breeze moves through our plans. With the emotional Moon entering Aquarius at 10:52 AM EST, we could sense a mood shift that widens our view of community possibilities. It may take some time to get going, but by midday, we crave fresh conversations that make routine problems easier right where we need them. As the moody Moon sits with transformative Pluto, honest feelings gain space to surface. We can choose clear boundaries that honor the truth. Lean into change!

Aries

March 21 – April 19

Making big moves could be key to today’s success. The coordinated Moon lands in your 11th House of Social Networks, encouraging you to rally friends by floating a plan in your group chat without overthinking. Steel yourself to start conversations others avoid by asking for clearer roles on a project or pointing out missing contributions. Notice who shows up with real effort, because actions reveal future allies. Flakier individuals will likely settle into the background on their own. Your voice helps friends organize.

Taurus

April 20 – May 20

Clear wins come from steady choices. Your 10th House of Goals brightens as the Moon moves in, nudging you to follow a plan instead of chasing every random request. Schedule a check-in with a supervisor to list your duties so your efforts stay visible, and leave with one simple next step. Take pride in your progress, however gradual, and be willing to refuse unrealistic deadlines. That keeps your quality high and lets your shoulders relax. Steady steps build trust and lasting progress.

Gemini

May 21 – June 20

Inspiration is showering over you! Big questions sparkle as the thoughtful Moon moves into your 9th House of Exploration, inviting you to ask, listen, and share without rushing. You might message a mentor about a question that keeps circling your head, which turns restlessness or boredom into curiosity that fuels a fresh plan. If a sibling or co-worker debates a detail, try asking an open question so the discussion becomes playful instead of tense. Share your ideas, letting novelty attract helpful allies.

Cancer

June 21 – July 22

Sensitivity, innate or practiced, is presently a valuable resource. Luna is sliding into your 8th House of Intimacy, inviting calm talks about support without pressure. You might open a budgeting app with a partner and review shared expenses together. If they’re a business or romantic partner, this ensures you’re both on the same team. If they’re a friend or family member, you can be comforted by their emotional support. Honest status updates can improve both your social and fiscal situations.

Leo

July 23 – August 22

Shifting emotions don’t make for a stable day. It may be tough to stay upright when Luna stumbles into your 7th House of Loved Ones. To steady yourself, make an effort to reach out to the people who care about you. For any relationship status, a simple question like ‘What would help today?’ can soften tension and encourage respect. If a contract or collaboration is in the weeds, consider asking an unconnected friend to give their opinion. They could have valuable insight!

Virgo

August 23 – September 22

Quiet focus makes the day smoother. Luna’s ready to tidy up your responsible 6th house, which means your routine could likely use some adjustments! Keep an eye out for any pain points as you go about your day. Where can you make the daily grind that much less tiresome? If energy dips, choose gentle movement and a simple snack because small care keeps your precision sharp while your mood calms. Small refinements today make tomorrow run smoother.

Libra

September 23 – October 22

Roll down your sleeves, because it’s time to wear your heart on them! It doesn’t matter if you’re drawing stick figures or writing nonsense — the act of creation is immensely valuable with the Moon entering your joyous 5th house. There’s no need to demand perfection, especially not when it comes to your hobbies. Simply obey the exhortations of your soul! Feel free to invite some pals, too, and be sincere about how much you enjoy their company. Happiness shared is happiness doubled.

Scorpio

October 23 – November 21

What needs care within your roots? The delicate Moon is entering your central 4th home, shining a light on any literal or metaphorical cracks in your foundations. You might notice a drawer that sticks and handle it ASAP, which could simultaneously comfort your childhood self, who couldn’t fix things for themselves so quickly. If a family conversation gets intense, ask for a pause so everyone has a chance to breathe and think about better compromises. Nurturing your home base is crucial.

Sagittarius

November 22 – December 21

Speech, speech! Your communication skills are magnified with Luna cruising into your talkative 3rd house, turning scattered thoughts into conversations that move the day forward. You may call a neighbor about an issue before anyone has to contact an authority, which creates space for tiny social snags to work themselves out naturally. Give people the benefit of the doubt, and they ought to return the favor. When communicating, remember that real examples are more readily understood than abstract theories. Sincerity speaks for itself!

Capricorn

December 22 – January 19

Money snares could start detangling themselves by the end of the day. That said, you can definitely help them along, especially once Luna shifts your attention to what is truly worth paying for. Avoid filling your cart with impulse purchases. The satisfaction of an increased bank balance should make up for any sadness from having to stick to window shopping. If someone asks you to cover a cost, feel free to refuse! If you want to help, offer something more equitable for both of you.

Aquarius

January 20 – February 18

A brave mood grows within you. The caring Moon is rolling into your innovative sign, bringing attention to how you enter rooms and reminding you that small changes can majorly shift how people respond. You might stand taller at the door, and in turn, notice that acquaintances quickly become friends and conversations flow more smoothly. If you aren’t planning on going out, consider looking through your wardrobe to confirm that your outer style matches your inner one. Name your aim, then chase it!

Pisces

February 19 – March 20

When quiet calls, you can now hear it. Your 12th House of Closure is embracing Luna’s presence, inviting you to rest and release any nagging worries. You may take a short walk without headphones, taking in the sounds of your environment. Allow those sounds to guide your daydreams — some amazing insights could result. Even if you don’t learn anything new, the relaxation of such a walk is invaluable. Seeking a soothing space today fortifies your spirit for the adventures of tomorrow.
