Oil Tumbles As Trump Considers Insurance Aid For Tankers

Oil Tumbles As Trump Considers Insurance Aid For Tankers

The price of crude instantly tumbled on Tuesday after the Trump administration is reportedly considering providing, or assisting in obtaining insurance for oil tankers crossing through the strait of Hormuz.

According to Reuters, “U.S. President Donald Trump will review policy options on Tuesday aimed at controlling energy prices following recent attacks linked to Iran, including a proposal to help oil tankers transiting conflict zones to obtain insurance, according to two sources familiar with the matter.”

Ships have been frozen on either side of the strait after insurers instituted “war policies” that wouldn’t pay out.

Supertanker costs in the Middle East have hit all-time highs, according to shipping data and industry sources on Tuesday, as the U.S.-Iran conflict intensifies with Tehran attacking ships passing through the ‌Strait of Hormuz.

The immediate reaction was a plunge in crude prices…

And as we suggested earlier today

Looks like the admin reads us https://t.co/HiUI9Lovqq pic.twitter.com/R0REjCQhhi

— zerohedge (@zerohedge) March 3, 2026

The news comes after the commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said that the strait of Hormuz is closed and that Iran would target any ship trying to pass through.

Carter Doctrine meets Trump Doctrine?

If President Trump were to provide U.S. Treasury-backed war-risk insurance or direct naval assistance to oil tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz, it would amount to a modernized fusion of the Carter Doctrine with Trump-style economic statecraft. In 1980, Jimmy Carter declared the Persian Gulf a vital U.S. interest and pledged to use “any means necessary” – up to and including the use of military force – to prevent outside powers from controlling it. That doctrine institutionalized a permanent American security guarantee over Gulf energy flows, eventually embodied in the creation of United States Central Command and the U.S. naval presence that still patrols the region. Its core premise was simple: energy security is national security.

A Trump-era move to insure or financially backstop tanker traffic through Hormuz would preserve that core premise but update the mechanism. While the exact details of the insurance proposal are unknown – rather than relying solely on overt military escalation to reopen the strait, Washington could absorb shipping risk, stabilize insurance markets, and allow tankers to sail under U.S. guarantees – with naval force as a backstop rather than the opening move. In effect, it would convert a military red line into a market-stability red line. Iran’s leverage depends on panic: if oil spikes toward $100–$120 because traffic halts for weeks, global recession pressure mounts. But if the U.S. neutralizes that panic through financial guarantees and controlled deterrence, the chokepoint loses much of its coercive power.

The result would be a hybrid doctrine: Carter’s hard-power commitment to freedom of navigation combined with Trump’s preference for leverage, economic tools, and time-bound pressure rather than open-ended intervention. It would signal that the United States will not allow the weaponization of energy chokepoints – not just through force, but through balance-sheet power.

Developing…

Duneland sets special meetings for new superintendent’s contract

The Duneland School Board plans to hold special meetings on two consecutive weeks, March 12 and March 19, to finalize the contract for Robert McDermott, who is being promoted to superintendent.

The board revealed on Feb. 18 that McDermott, who has served as assistant superintendent since 2019, was their choice to succeed Chip Pettit.

Pettit announced on Jan. 29 that he was taking a superintendent’s position with Hinsdale Township High School District 86 in the suburban Chicago area, once his Duneland contract expires in June.

McDermott, 55, with more than 30 years’ experience, had worked with Pettit in the Crown Point Community School Corporation before coming over to Duneland to become his top assistant in 2019.

After Pettit stated he was leaving, McDermott said the school board reached out to gauge his interest. “And we both landed on it was a good fit,” McDermott said.

School Board President Brandon Kroft said the board believed that “stability and continuity matter” and that McDermott’s extensive experience and familiarity with Duneland factored in the decision.

Kroft said Monday that the two special school board meetings will happen at 5 p.m. on March 12 and March 19.

Under Indiana law, the school board is required to hold a public meeting on the proposed contract at which public comment is heard. The board is not required to disclose the candidate’s identity, but in this case, they have already made their choice known.

The contract is expected to be approved at the second public meeting on March 19.

Cadillac, dijo Towriss, quiere ganar.

“I’d Be Angry, Too”: Jamie Dimon Says Trump Debanking Suit Has No Merit, Then Rails Debanking Practices

“I’d Be Angry, Too”: Jamie Dimon Says Trump Debanking Suit Has No Merit, Then Rails Debanking Practices

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon said Monday that Donald Trump’s $5 billion lawsuit over the closure of his accounts “has no merit,” but added, “They have the right to be angry. I’d be angry, too.”

Trump claims JPMorgan and other banks shut his accounts for political reasons, according to CNBC. Dimon said banks are often “forced” to debank clients due to legal and regulatory pressures tied to reputational risk. “We debank people because it causes legal, regulatory risk for us,” he said, noting it’s easier for banks to avoid that risk.

Trump sued JPMorgan and Dimon in January, part of a broader legal campaign that also includes claims against Capital One, media outlets, and the IRS. JPMorgan has acknowledged closing dozens of Trump-related accounts after the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack.

“But I agree with them,” Dimon said during an interview in Miami. “Like, why is a bank allowed to do that?”

CNBC writes that though no single law mandates dropping clients over reputational concerns, regulations make serving certain customers risky. The case puts Dimon in a delicate spot as banks begin benefiting from deregulation under Trump appointees.

“There are a lot of misunderstandings here,” Dimon said. “Hopefully the law will change, and hopefully it’ll get sorted out.”

Recall, President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit against JPMorgan Chase and its CEO Jamie Dimon, claiming the banking giant debanked him for political reasons.

The lawsuit was filed in January in a Miami state court by his attorney, Alejandro Brito, on behalf of Trump and several of his hospitality companies.

The complaint cites JPMorgan’s code of conduct, which reads: “We set high expectations and hold ourselves accountable. We do the right thing—not necessarily the easy or expedient thing. We abide by the letter and spirit of the laws and regulations everywhere we do business and have zero tolerance for unethical behavior.”

According to Brito, “Despite claiming to hold these principles dear, JPMC violated them by unilaterally—and without warning or remedy—terminating several of Plaintiff’s bank accounts.”

Trump and his companies have “transacted hundreds of millions of dollars” through the bank, the lawsuit reads, adding that Feb. 19, 2021 was the day that “forever altered the dynamic of the parties’ relationship,” when the bank allegedly “without warning or provocation,” notified Trump and his companies that several of their bank accounts or were beneficiaries of, “would be closed just two months later, on April 19, 2021.”

“JPMC did not provide plaintiffs with any recourse, remedy, or alternative—its decision was final and unequivocal,” reads the suit.

Chicago man gets two years for confining woman after chase into Indiana

A Chicago man got two years in prison Monday after admitting he confined his ex-girlfriend after he chased her across the state line into Indiana.

Octavio Perez-Beauchamp, 32, opted to plead guilty to criminal confinement, a Level 5 felony, before his trial’s first day started in March 2025. Jurors were dismissed.

Around 4:02 p.m. on Sept. 28, 2022, Hammond Police responded to a report of a “male battering a female” near 136th Street and Sheffield Avenue, according to the probable cause affidavit.

The woman, then 43, told police that she arrived at her home in Chicago when she saw her ex-boyfriend driving in front of her house. She drove past the house in an attempt to avoid him, but he spotted her and started chasing her in his vehicle, the affidavit states.

The woman told police that she drove east into Indiana and had to slam on her brakes to avoid a crash with him near Sheffield Avenue and the state line, court records state.

Once she stopped, Perez-Beauchamp got out and started moving aggressively toward her car.

He took her cellphone, started looking through it and the woman tried to exit, but he got out of the car as well and grabbed her, forcing her back in the vehicle, the affidavit states.

According to the original court documents, Perez-Beauchamp grabbed the woman by the neck so hard that she was unable to breathe and began to pass out. She was able to grab her phone as he choked her and tried to call 911 but Perez-Beauchamp took her phone and threw it on the ground, court records state.

The woman told police that they broke up six months earlier, but he continued to go to her house and contact her against her wishes, the affidavit states. She had filed a police report in Illinois on Sept. 22, 2022 about Perez-Beauchamp breaking down the front door of her house, and she said he battered her in the past and threatened to kill her.

He is expected to have to repay juror costs.

Gov. JB Pritzker didn’t travel on Jeffrey Epstein’s plane, spokespeople clarify after Bill Clinton testimony

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker never flew with former President Bill Clinton on a plane belonging to Jeffrey Epstein, spokespeople for the two Democrats said late Monday hours after video of Clinton’s testimony before a House committee was released, in which the former president suggested the pair had traveled with the financier before he was convicted of sex crimes.

Appearing before the House Oversight Committee behind closed doors on Friday, Clinton was asked about his use of Epstein’s private plane in the early 2000s, after the president had left office and while he was establishing the Clinton Foundation charitable group. Clinton told members of the committee that he never traveled alone on the plane, according to video of the sworn testimony, which lasted more than 4 1/2 hours and was released Monday.

“I had the Secret Service with me, and then, on occasion, I had people who had volunteered to help us and wanted to see what we were doing,” Clinton said. “For example, I think it was on one of these trips, I think, that I had my first trip for the man who’s now the governor of Illinois, JB Pritzker, and his wife. They gave me — they helped me get started. All a matter of public record.”

But Clinton’s last flight on Epstein’s aircraft, one which he traveled with Epstein and accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell on foundation-related trips, was in 2003, according to testimony and flight logs. Pritzker’s trips with Clinton came years later, according to a spokesman for his campaign and a spokesman for Clinton.

“Governor Pritzker was asked to travel with President Clinton on two trips, once in 2008 and once in 2013,” Pritzker campaign spokesman Alex Gough said in a statement late Monday. “Neither utilized Jefferey Epstein’s aircraft, nor was he accompanied by that man or Ghislaine Maxwell.”

JB Pritzker can be seen in the background as former U.S. President Bill Clinton and his daughter Chelsea hold babies as they visit a rural healthcare clinic Aug. 2, 2008, in Rwinkwavu, Rwanda. Clinton was visiting Clinton Foundation projects in four African countries over before heading to Mexico City to give a keynote address at the World AIDS Conference. (Justin Sullivan/Getty Images For The Clinton Foundation)

While a lack of clarity in Clinton’s statement and a lack of follow-up questions from members of the committee caused the confusion, Gough shifted the focus to members of the rival party after the Republican National Committee and figures in the Illinois GOP circulated clips of the testimony on social media.

“We understand that the GOP is desperate to deflect from the heinous accusations against President Trump in the Epstein Files, but this is a particularly weak effort to assign blame where there is none,” Gough said.

Pritzker is a longtime ally of the Clintons, having been a major backer of Hillary Clinton’s two presidential campaigns, including her 2008 primary race against hometown favorite Barack Obama.

A Clinton spokesman backed up the Pritzker campaign’s timeline of JB Pritzker and Bill Clinton’s joint travels in a social media post.

“President Clinton was simply giving an example of the many people he traveled with to see the Clinton Foundation’s work,” Angel Ureña, Clinton’s deputy chief of staff, wrote in a post on X. That post also reshared the RNC’s initial post. which included Clinton’s comments from the testimony video. “Governor Pritzker joined a Clinton Foundation trip in 2008.

“Not on Epstein’s plane. Not with Epstein. Not with Maxwell.”

JB Pritzker’s name does not appear in the flight logs for Epstein’s airplane, which have been released publicly.

Still, that didn’t stop at least one of the Republicans running for the chance to challenge Pritzker in November from latching on.

“JB Pritzker has officially been named in the Epstein deposition by Bill Clinton,” video gambling magnate Rick Heidner wrote in a social media post. “I said that his cousin might have a problem because of Epstein. Now it looks like JB could be having problems with it too.”

Heidner, who is running against former state Sen. Darren Bailey, conservative policy advocate Ted Dabrowski and DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick in the March 17 GOP primary for governor, was referring to Pritzker’s cousin Thomas Pritzker.

Thomas Pritzker last month announced he was stepping down as executive chair of Hyatt Hotels because of his “association with Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell which I deeply regret.”

The publicly released Epstein files show Thomas Pritzker was in regular contact with Epstein even after the financier pleaded guilty in Florida in 2008 to charges including soliciting prostitution from a minor.

JB Pritzker has said he isn’t close with his cousin, who was among the next generation of Pritzkers whom patriarch Jay Pritzker tapped to lead Hyatt and other family interests after his death.

The succession plan, which also named the governor’s sister, Penny Pritzker, and Jay Pritzker’s younger cousin Nick to help lead, precipitated an acrimonious breakup of the Pritzker family fortune in the early 2000s.

Linda Grizely: Transforming financial wellness in the workplace

Content oversight provided by Studio 1847

Financial wellness is more than spreadsheets and retirement plans. It is the psychological weight of money, and how that weight shapes decision-making, stress, health and productivity. Linda Grizely, a financial empowerment strategist and creator of the MeMoney method, aims to help organizations rethink what financial wellness at work is really about.

With a background spanning financial planning, tax strategy and real estate, Grizely blends practical education with emotional insight. As a speaker and workshop leader, her mission is to reduce financial stress so employees can show up with more focus, confidence and capacity.

Financial stress: The hidden productivity killer

Grizely’s core message is that financial stress rarely stays at home.

“Employees don’t leave their financial worries at the door,” she says. “When they’re stressed about money, it affects everything: decision-making, concentration, even physical health. The corporate world has been quick to address issues like burnout or engagement fatigue with superficial solutions and quick fixes, but the root of the problem is deeper.”

She also notes that leaders can feel financial stress in a different, often intensified way. They are not only managing their own responsibilities, but also carrying the emotional load of supporting teams, navigating budgets and making decisions that affect others.

Shifting the focus: Financial wellness as a leadership skill

Traditional workplace financial wellness programs tend to emphasize tactics: budgeting, investing, retirement planning. Grizely argues that those tools matter, but they are incomplete without addressing behavior and mindset.

“The tactics, like how to budget and how to save, are important,” she explains. “But if you’re not addressing the mindset behind those behaviors, you’re missing the point. That’s where my MeMoney method comes in. It’s about helping people understand not just the how of financial decisions, but the why.”

In her work, she has seen how money stress shows up in ways employers often miss. She recalls a woman in her early 30s who lived with her parents, spent her salary on non-essentials, and felt constant anxiety about raises, pay timing and her financial future.

“She wasn’t in debt, but she wasn’t saving either,” Grizely says. “She was trapped in a cycle of lifestyle creep and financial uncertainty. When employees like her are financially stressed, it’s not just a personal issue, it’s a productivity issue. Their stress affects their attitude and performance, and that affects the whole team.”

Bridging personal finance and professional performance

Grizely’s approach connects financial confidence to business outcomes. When employees feel stable and equipped, they tend to be more present, engaged and resilient under pressure.

“I’m not just coming in to teach employees how to invest,” she says. “I’m coming in to help them understand how to engage with their finances in a way that reduces stress, improves focus and allows them to be more present at work. When people are financially confident, they perform better. It’s that simple.”

Her programs are designed to be adaptable across life stages and career levels. Some employees may be rebuilding after a major transition like divorce or job loss. Others may simply be trying to build better habits and avoid common traps like lifestyle inflation.

“I meet people where they are,” she says. “Financial wellness is a continuous journey, not a destination.”

Why traditional financial wellness programs fall short

Grizely believes many corporate programs fail because they focus on tools without addressing the emotional realities that drive money behavior.

“Most programs offer tools like budgeting apps or retirement calculators, but they fail to address the emotional and behavioral aspects of money management,” she explains. “They’re focused on tactics, not on how people feel when they open their bank accounts or check their credit card statements. When you don’t address the emotions behind money, the strategies won’t stick.”

Financial habits, she argues, are rooted in identity, stress responses and learned patterns.

“You can’t just tell someone to follow a budget without understanding what’s motivating them,” she says. “If you’re a natural spender, you’re not going to stick to a rigid plan. If you’ve never felt financially empowered, you won’t know how to make choices that align with your values.”

Her goal is not perfection. It is sustainability.

“This isn’t about being perfect with your finances,” she says. “It’s about creating a rhythm that works for you. When employees feel empowered to make financial decisions that align with their personal values, they feel more confident in every aspect of their life, work included.”

The ROI of financial wellness

For organizations, Grizely frames financial wellness as an investment with measurable impact. She points to outcomes like reduced absenteeism, improved engagement, higher retention and a workforce that is better equipped to handle pressure.

“When employees are financially confident, they’re less likely to call in sick, less likely to suffer from burnout, and more likely to stay with the company long-term,” she explains. “Financial wellness is a leadership strategy as much as it is a personal one. When employees feel supported in this area, they’re more likely to stay engaged and productive at work.”

Bringing financial wellness to the leadership table

Grizely’s approach blends financial education, emotional insight and workplace strategy, helping organizations build cultures where financial wellness is treated as a real component of performance, not a fringe perk.
