León habló con los periodistas reunidos fuera de su villa en Castel Gandolfo, donde suele pasar las tardes de los lunes y los martes relajándose, jugando tenis y nadando en la piscina cubierta de la finca.
Indicó que planea más viajes a partir de 2026, después de que sus compromisos en Roma disminuyan con el fin del Año Santo.
Cuando se le preguntó si regresaría a Perú, donde pasó unos 20 años como misionero, el papa dijo “por supuesto”.
Pero también dio indicios de otros posibles destinos, como el santuario de Fátima en Portugal, el de Guadalupe en México, y visitas a Argentina y Uruguay.
“Me encanta viajar, el problema es coordinar con todos los compromisos”, comentó.

Los condenados únicamente empezarán a cumplir sus penas una vez que agoten sus apelaciones.

A panel of appeals court judges on Nov. 18 upheld a ruling against President Donald Trump in a case he brought against CNN.
Trump did not adequately show that CNN defamed him when it reported that he promoted what it described as the “Big Lie” when challenging results from the 2020 presidential election, judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit concluded.
Trump said that the phrase was intended to link him to Adolf Hitler and propaganda used by the Nazis in Germany, but the term is ambiguous enough to cast doubt on that allegation, according to the new ruling.
“Second, Trump’s argument hinges on the fact that his own interpretation of his conduct—i.e., that he was exercising a constitutional right to identify his concerns with the integrity of elections—is true and that CNN’s interpretation—i.e., that Trump was peddling his ‘Big Lie’—is false. However, his conduct is susceptible to multiple subjective interpretations, including CNN’s,” the per curiam opinion from Circuit Judges Elizabeth L. Branch, Adalberto Jordan, and Kevin Newsom said.
The same court held in a different case that one person’s subjective assessment is not rendered false by another person’s different conclusion.
“Trump has not adequately alleged the falsity of CNN’s statements. Therefore, he has failed to state a defamation claim,” the court stated.
The White House declined to comment.
Lawyers for CNN and Trump did not immediately return inquiries.
U.S. District Judge Anuraag Singhal in 2023 had dismissed the lawsuit, finding CNN’s usage of the “Big Lie” term was repugnant but not defamatory.
Trump had also argued that the district judge should have analyzed more than the five statements he outlined in his complaint, but those statements included CNN’s usage of the Nazi-linked term, the panel said.
The panel also rejected Trump’s attempts to allow him to file an amended complaint or move for reconsideration from Singhal of the decision.
The district court acted within its discretion when dealing with motions to amend and reconsider, according to the appeals court.

NEW ORLEANS — Around 250 federal border agents are set to descend on New Orleans in the coming weeks for a two-month immigration crackdown dubbed “Swamp Sweep” that aims to arrest roughly 5,000 people across southeast Louisiana and into Mississippi, according to documents obtained by The Associated Press and three people familiar with the operation.
The deployment, which is expected to begin in earnest on Dec. 1, marks the latest escalation in a series of rapid-fire immigration crackdowns unfolding nationwide — from Chicago to Los Angeles to Charlotte, North Carolina — as the Trump administration moves aggressively to fulfill the president’s campaign promise of mass deportations.
In Louisiana, the operation is unfolding on the home turf of Republican Gov. Jeff Landry, a close Trump ally who has moved to align state policy with the White House’s enforcement agenda. But, as seen in other blue cities situated in Republican-led states, increased federal enforcement presence could set up a collision with officials in liberal New Orleans who have long resisted federal sweeps.
Gregory Bovino, the Border Patrol commander tapped to run the Louisiana sweep, has become the administration’s go-to architect for large-scale immigration crackdowns — and a magnet for criticism over the tactics used in them. His selection to oversee “Swamp Sweep” signals that the administration views Louisiana as a major enforcement priority for the Trump administration.
The Department of Homeland Security declined to comment on the operation. “For the safety and security of law enforcement we’re not going to telegraph potential operations,” spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said.
In Chicago, Bovino drew a rare public rebuke from a federal judge who said he misled the court about the threats posed by protesters and deployed tear gas and pepper balls without justification during a chaotic confrontation downtown. His teams also oversaw aggressive arrest operations in Los Angeles and more recently in Charlotte, where Border Patrol officials have touted dozens of arrests across North Carolina this week after a surging immigration crackdown that has included federal agents scouring churches, grocery stores and apartment complexes.
Planning documents reviewed by the AP show Border Patrol teams preparing to fan out across neighborhoods and commercial hubs throughout southeast Louisiana, stretching from New Orleans through Jefferson, St. Bernard and St. Tammany parishes and as far north as Baton Rouge, with additional activity planned in southeastern Mississippi.
Agents are expected to arrive in New Orleans on Friday to begin staging equipment and vehicles before the Thanksgiving holiday, according to the people familiar with the operation. They are scheduled to return toward the end of the month, with the full sweep beginning in early December. The people familiar with the matter could not publicly discuss details of the operation and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity.
To support an operation of that scale, federal officials are securing a network of staging sites: A portion of the FBI’s New Orleans field office has been designated as a command post, while a naval base five miles south of the city will store vehicles, equipment and thousands of pounds of “less lethal” munitions like tear gas and pepper balls, the people said. Homeland Security has also asked to use the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base New Orleans for up to 90 days beginning this weekend, according to documents reviewed by the AP.
Once “Swamp Sweep” begins, Louisiana will become a major testing ground for the administration’s expanding deportation strategy, and a focal point in the widening rift between federal authorities intent on carrying out large-scale arrests and city officials who have long resisted them.

Here’s one that might surprise some New York City voters: it turns out banks don’t seem to prosper under communism. For proof look no further than Brazil where authorities moved Tuesday to shut down Banco Master SA as federal police arrested six people — including CEO Daniel Vorcaro, according to Bloomberg.
The arrests were part of a widening fraud probe. One person said Vorcaro had planned to leave the country that day.
The central bank announced it would liquidate the lender’s assets and appointed an outside administrator, adding that assets belonging to Master’s controllers and former executives were now unavailable. Police said roughly 12 billion reais were frozen and that luxury cars, art, and 1.6 million reais in cash were seized.
Bloomberg writes that the investigation, Operation Compliance Zero, began in 2024 over allegations that a financial institution issued fabricated credit instruments and sold them to another bank, later swapping them for different assets without proper evaluation. Police chief Andrei Rodrigues said: “We are conducting an important operation, in collaboration with the Central Bank and the Council for Financial Activities Control, working together to address a crime against the financial system.”
O Globo reported the receiving bank was Banco de Brasilia (BRB). BRB said its CEO Paulo Henrique Costa and its CFO were temporarily removed for 60 days but that no arrest was made, and it maintains compliance standards.
Master’s downfall followed years of rapid expansion — including an 86% average annual rise in lending, splashy Miami offices, and acquisitions — financed partly through a 4-billion-reais credit line from Brazil’s deposit-insurance fund (FGC). A December 2023 rule change undercut that support and set off investor flight.
The bank had been seeking rescue capital for months. On Monday it announced a plan to sell its commercial operations to a group led by Fictor Holding SA, but regulators would have needed to approve the deal. Master had also been trying to sell its fintech Will Bank, with talks reported between Master and Mubadala.
Regulators had already rejected a controversial merger with Banco de Brasilia, which critics likened to a government-backed bailout.
Bloomberg previously reported that officials were alarmed by links between Master’s proposed deal and firms involved in a major money-laundering probe. Asset managers Reag Investimentos SA and Trustee DTVM, which serviced Master, were under investigation in a multistate operation targeting criminal schemes tied to fuel distribution. Both firms denied wrongdoing and said they were cooperating, while Master said it was one of their many clients.

Plea negotiations underway with Wisconsin judge accused of helping immigrant dodge agents
MADISON, Wis. — Plea negotiations with a Wisconsin judge accused of helping an immigrant evade federal agents are underway as her trial nears, the newly minted federal prosecutor overseeing the case said Tuesday.
Interim U.S. Attorney Brad Schimel told The Associated Press in a telephone interview that attorneys are “discussing potential resolution” of the case against Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan, but her attorneys haven’t shown they’re willing to accept any offer.
A plea agreement would mark a surprising de-escalation by prosecutors in a case that has become a flashpoint in President Donald Trump’s sweeping immigration crackdown. Schimel said plea negotiations are part of a “normal process to resolve a case and eliminate risk for both sides, to find a resolution that makes sense. That’s all.”
Dugan’s defense attorneys said she’s innocent and they’re preparing for a trial next month.
According to court documents, federal agents in April learned that an immigrant who was in the country illegally was scheduled to appear before Dugan in a state battery case. The agents traveled to the Milwaukee County Courthouse to apprehend the man, 31-year-old Eduardo Flores-Ruiz.
Dugan learned the agents were in the courthouse and showed Flores-Ruiz out of her courtroom through a private door. Flores-Ruiz was able to make his way outside, but agents captured him following a foot chase. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced Friday that he had been deported.
Dugan was arrested at the courthouse a week after the chase and a federal grand jury indicted her on charges of obstruction and concealing an individual to prevent arrest in May. Dugan has argued she did nothing wrong and she has complete authority over movement in her courtroom.
Her trial is set to begin Dec. 15. She could face up to six years in prison if convicted.
Dugan’s indictment has intensified the clash between the Trump administration and local authorities over the Republican’s sweeping immigration crackdown.
Democrats have accused the Trump administration of trying to make an example of Dugan to blunt judicial opposition to the crackdown. The administration has worked to vilify her on social media. FBI Director Kash Patel posted a photo on the social platform X of Dugan being led out of the courthouse in handcuffs. And the U.S. Department of Homeland Security posted on X last week that Dugan has taken the term “‘activist judge’ to a whole new meaning.”
U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi on Monday appointed Schimel as the Eastern District of Wisconsin’s interim U.S. attorney. He replaces acting U.S. Attorney Richard Frohling, who brought the case against Dugan. Schimel served as Wisconsin attorney general from 2015 to 2019. Then-Gov. Scott Walker appointed him to a state judgeship after he lost reelection in 2018. He ran unsuccessfully for the state Supreme Court this past spring.
John Vaudreuil, a former U.S. attorney in Wisconsin’s Western District, said he was surprised that Schimel would comment publicly on plea negotiations, saying such discussions are private and announcing them could be seen as putting pressure on a defendant.
Still, he said that he’s not surprised negotiations are taking place. During his stint as U.S. attorney, his office extended offers in most cases as a professional courtesy even if it appeared there was no middle ground, Vaudreuil said.
Schimel is likely taking orders from the upper echelons of the U.S. Department of Justice on how to handle Dugan, making the chances of a resolution short of trial slim, he said.
“If the attorney general of the United States says it has to be a felony and it has to be jail time, I don’t suspect that’s where the defense is starting from,” Vaudreuil said. “When the case started, there were a lot of things said from on high that would make it difficult to come to a resolution of the case.”

Bill and Hillary Clinton have officially refused to comply with House Oversight Committee subpoenas ordering them to sit for depositions about their ties to financier to the elite and convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) broke the news on Monday, stating “Bill and Hillary Clinton are refusing to appear before House Oversight for their depositions regarding Jeffrey Epstein. Notice how House Democrats suddenly have nothing to say about it.”

The subpoenas, issued in August by Chairman James Comer (R-KY), set Hillary’s deposition for October 9 and Bill’s for October 14. After their attorneys requested delays, the Clintons have now stonewalled entirely.
Comer has long flagged Bill Clinton as a “prime suspect,” citing more than 20 flights on the Lolita Express, multiple trips to Epstein’s island, and at least 17 visits by Epstein to the Clinton White House.
The Clintons’ defiance stands in stark contrast to President Trump’s aggressive push for total transparency. As we highlighted yesterday, Trump labeled the entire Epstein controversy a “Democrat Hoax” designed to smear Republicans and demanded the immediate release of every file:
“House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein files, because we have nothing to hide, and it’s time to move on from this Democrat Hoax perpetrated by Radical Left Lunatics in order to deflect from the Great Success of the Republican Party,” Trump noted.
Trump doubled down, insisting the files be released but warning they must not overshadow Republican victories, stating “What I just don’t want is for Epstein to detract from the great success of the Republican Party… It’s a Democrat hoax.”

With House Republicans now preparing contempt proceedings and a floor vote looming on full Epstein file declassification, the Clintons’ refusal to testify only intensifies the spotlight on decades of unanswered questions.

Women’s Pro Baseball League will play its inaugural season in Springfield
The Women’s Pro Baseball League will play its inaugural season at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield.
The WPBL plans to begin play on Aug. 1. The Women’s Baseball World Cup is being held in Rockford — about three hours north of Springfield — from July 22-26.
Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and Boston are the four teams for the league’s 2026 season. San Francisco will pick first in a snake-style draft on Thursday night, followed by Los Angeles, New York and Boston. The WPBL said there will be six draft rounds, with each team selecting five players per round.
Former Little League star Mo’ne Davis, USA Baseball’s Kelsie Whitmore and Japanese pitcher Ayami Sato are among the top players expected to be selected in the draft.
The WPBL said Robin Roberts Stadium “offers a central location” among its four founding clubs. Springfield also hosted one of the earliest paid women’s games in 1875, according to a WPBL news release.
The ballpark is named for Springfield native and Hall of Fame pitcher Robin Roberts, who briefly played for the Chicago Cubs in 1966. Part of the Springfield Park District, the stadium has a seating capacity of 5,200 and has recently installed an LED videoboard.
The upstart WPBL was co-founded by Justine Siegal, the first woman to coach for an MLB team with the Oakland Athletics in 2015. When it debuts, it will be the first pro league for women since the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League — immortalized in the film “A League of Their Own” — dissolved in 1954.
