Federal appeals court temporarily halts release of hundreds of ‘Operation Midway Blitz’ detainees
A federal appeals court has temporarily halted the release on bond of hundreds of immigrants whose arrests during Operation Midway Blitz are being challenged under a consent decree that limits so-called warrantless arrests that occur without a prior warrant or probable cause.
U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Cummings had allowed their release on a $1,500 bond and some form of monitoring, including electronic ankle monitors, pending the outcome of immigration proceedings. Most of those arrested were originally processed at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in west suburban Broadview, but have since been moved to jails around the country.
But the Trump administration has asked an appeals court to block the release Friday of some 450 Chicago-area immigration arrestees, arguing the judge made a “bevy of legal errors” that put public safety at risk and “cripple” immigration enforcement.
“The district court’s orders subject the government to burdensome, costly and intrusive mandates — including training, documentation and reporting requirements — and cripple the government’s renewed implementation of the nation’s immigration laws after years of non-enforcement,” the administration argued.
Just a day before the order was set to take effect, the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday stayed Cummings’ order pending further review. It set arguments for Dec. 2.
The order comes nearly a week after the Trump administration released the names of 614 people whose Chicago-area immigration arrests may have violated the consent decree. The list provided criminal history information for only 16 that the government argued were a “high public safety risk.” About 40 others were listed has high risk without a detailed justification.
Controversial tactics by immigration agents had led to the arrests of thousands in the Chicago area during the administration’s “Operation Midway Blitz,” at times sweeping up people on the way to work, school and outside of courthouses.
In explaining his decision, Cummings read from a summary he and his law clerks compiled from more than 150 ongoing immigration petitions in federal court, where arrestees were challenging deportation. He said the circumstances of the arrests showed him that, by and large, Operation Midway Blitz was not targeting hardened criminals.
Of them, Cummings said, 54 people were arrested while at work, including 20 landscapers, four Uber or taxi drivers, and two street vendors. Another 20 were arrested while commuting to or from work, and nine were detained at a Home Depot or Menards, where they were presumably either seeking work or buying job supplies, the judge said.

Former waterpark property bought by Porter residents who see its potential
The old waterpark property on U.S. 20 in Porter was recently purchased by a group of local residents who want to see the land developed for the community’s best interest.
Three couples, who are neighbors and longtime Porter residents, incorporated and called themselves Friends of Porter, LLC, state records show.
They closed the deal on Sept. 29 when they paid $850,000 to White Stallion LC for the 17.5-acre parcel on U.S. 20, between the Ind. 49 interchange and Waverly Road, county records show.
“I have been obsessed with that property for a long time,” said Mark Lecy, who is the registered agent for Friends of Porter, LLC.
Lecy said they don’t have specific plans themselves, but by buying the property, they would bring a local voice toward shaping its future.
“We want to try to have an influence in putting something there that would serve the community, serve visitors and be a catalyst,” Lecy said. “Our role is to attract developers. We want to collaborate with the town.”
A lodge or hotel that would serve the growing needs of tourism with the Indiana Dunes National and State parks is one idea. A mixed-use development with offices, stores and restaurants could be another way to go, Lecy said.
White Stallion LC of Provo, Utah, has owned the land since July 2012 and was the last operator of the Seven Peaks Waterpark Duneland. The park was suddenly closed in June 2017 by the Porter County Health Department after at least 11 children reported chlorine burns and a host of other violations were discovered.
Weiss Entities of Chicago in 2019 unveiled a $35 million proposal for five buildings with 311 luxury apartment units on the property. The Porter Town Council granted Weiss a Planned Unit Development (PUD) agreement for the property, but the Chicago developer backed out.
The Porter Plan Commission and Town Council during the fall of 2022 — wary of the Utah owner’s past stewardship of the waterpark — both unanimously rejected White Stallion’s attempt to follow through with the Chicago developer’s plan for apartments on the land.
Michael Barry, Porter’s director of development/building commissioner, said that the town is probably going to vacate the PUD, which guides development decisions, for the U.S. 20 land.
“There’s no point in having it hang over the property as an albatross. It would be better to have a clean slate,” Barry said.
Lecy said he didn’t like the idea of apartments being built on the land, which he considers an important piece of property for the town.
“The recreation economy is ripe to be tapped,” Lecy said, noting the development of the Marquette Greenway Trail and kayak launches, to supplement what the national and state parks already offer.
Another important piece in the puzzle is the Johnson Inn property at Porter Beach. The property is in probate in Lake County as Chuck Williams, a Valparaiso developer, is interested in buying the inn so he can redevelop the lakefront land.
Lecy said that the town of Porter has talked for years about extending the sanitary sewer service north of U.S. 20. He said the development of the U.S. 20 property and the Johnson Inn land could help the town obtain grants to build the sewer extension.
In recent years, Lecy said he watched as White Stallion LC had originally set a price of $2.4 million for the 17.5-acre property.
Gradually, the price dropped as the owners attempted this past summer to auction the property with a minimum price of $990,000.
White Stallion bought the property for $1,050,000 in 2012, which then included 21.5 acres across Waverly Road, directly across from the waterpark land and north of the Summertree subdivision.
The Utah developer still owns 15 acres north of the Summertree subdivision.
Lecy said in recent weeks, weeds and scraggly trees have been cleared from the waterpark land. He said they also plan to fix the fences as they want to improve the property’s appearance.
After that, the plan is to wait and see what proposals come. “We’re in no hurry,” Lecy said.

Jasmine Crockett Shares List Of Republicans Who Took Money From Epstein – Only Problem – It Was A Different Epstein!
Jasmine Crockett Shares List Of Republicans Who Took Money From Epstein – Only Problem – It Was A Different Epstein!
Authored by Debra Heine via American Greatness,
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) has publicly beclowned herself for the second time in a week by falsely accusing several Republican politicians of taking money from “somebody named Jeffrey Epstein.”
“Folks who also took money from somebody named Jeffrey Epstein, as I had my team dig in very quickly—Mitt Romney, the NRCC, Lee Zeldin, George Bush, McCain-Palin,” Crocket declared on the House floor on Tuesday.

Federal campaign finance records show that Epstein donated primarily to Democrats, including two current sitting members of Congress, Delegate Stacy Plaskett (D-V.I) and Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), both of whom have retained the donations, despite scrutiny.
Even worse, newly released documents from Epstein’s estate include text messages between Plaskett and Epstein that show he advised her on what questions to ask President Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen during a 2019 congressional hearing.
The Republican-led House Oversight Committee also recently released documents revealing that a fundraising firm representing Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries ( D-N.Y.) solicited donations from Epstein in 2013, shortly after Jeffries’ first election to the House and well after Epstein’s 2008 conviction for soliciting prostitution from a minor.
“I just want to be clear, if this is the standard that we gonna make, just know we’re gonna expose it all. And know that the FEC filings, they are available for everyone to review,” Crockett said, hoping to deflect from these Democrat embarrassments.
Public records however indicate that most of the donations highlighted by Crockett came from an entirely different person, a Republican physician named Jeffrey Epstein.
Zeldin, currently Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator, blasted the congresswoman on X: “Yes Crockett, a physician named Dr. Jeffrey Epstein (who is a totally different person than the other Jeffrey Epstein) donated to a prior campaign of mine. NO FREAKIN RELATION YOU GENIUS!!!”
Records also showed that Dr. Epstein made two $250 donations to former Republican Utah Sen. Mitt Romney during his presidential run in 2012,” the Daily Caller reported.
All of the donations mentioned by Crockett reportedly came from other people named Jeffrey Epstein, and came in some cases, came after the convicted sex trafficker had died.
The emails released by the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday show Rep. Hakeem Jeffries’ campaign soliciting money from Epstein in 2013 and inviting him to a Democrat fundraising dinner with then-President Barack Obama.
The fundraising firm Dynamic SRG refers to Jeffries in the email as “Brooklyn’s Barack” and a “progressive voice,” and encourages him to “get involved with the dinner” or “get an opportunity to get to know Hakeem better.”
Jeffries stated he has “no recollection” of the outreach and emphasized he “certainly” never met Epstein or accepted any money from him.
Plaskett, meanwhile, has dismissed accusations that she colluded with the sex offender in an effort to get Trump.
“I believe that Jeffrey Epstein had information and I was going to get information to get at the truth,” she said during an interview on CNN, Wednesday.
“There are a lot of people who have done a lot of crimes and as a prosecutor, you get information from people where you can.”

Republicans in the House on Tuesday attempted to censure Plaskett and remove her from the House Intelligence Committee, but failed in a 209-214 vote, with three Republicans joining Democrats in opposition, allegedly to protect Rep. Cory Mills (R-Fla.) from being censured himself, and referred to the House Ethics Committee for investigation.
Crockett, last week, was brutally called out by CNN when she tried to claim that Republicans had redacted a name in an email released by Democrats to smear Trump.
When the CNN host pointed out that Democrats had redacted the exonerating information, Crockett immediately flipflopped, claiming that Democrats redacted the name because their “biggest concern” was to “actually make sure” they were “protecting victims.”

Cernan Earth and Space Center sets holiday slate of space-related fun
Brightly-colored aliens learning to regrow a forest, the modern-day equivalent of dinosaurs, plus dazzling laser displays, will highlight the winter shows at Cernan Earth and Space Center at Triton College in River Grove.
In planning the winter programming, Director Kris Kovach McCall said, “We’re looking for stuff that’s going to be fun, family-oriented, lighthearted, maybe contribute to the season. Maybe also distract from the season. We try to mix things up, year-to-year, season-to-season.”
The winter selection is diverse and designed to fascinate, McCall said.
“The Stellars: Mission Green,” a show for all ages, will be screened at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 22. “It follows a group of aliens who crash-land on earth,” said Planetarium educator Wayne C. Foster. “They damage their on-ship forest that grows the food that they need to survive. They need to learn how forests work to bring their forest back to life.”
Foster said the show has “goofy jokes” and encourages audience participation as the aliens and the audience learn about ecosystems.
“Dinosaurs at Dusk” will be screened at 1:30 p.m. on Dec.23.
“Who doesn’t love dinosaurs?” McCall said. “A big focus of the program is the relationship between dinosaurs and modern-day birds.” Kids might be surprised to discover that a chicken is really a dinosaur.
“There’s a little drama; a little humor,” he said.
“A Trans-Siberian Christmas Laser Show” will run at 3 p.m. on Dec. 22, 23, and 26, and at 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 27.
“We always like to say our laser shows are bright lights, loud music, and very little educational value,” Foster joked. “But they are a lot of fun.” This particular laser show combines the heavy metal sound of the highly praised Trans-Siberian Orchestra as it reimagines classic Christmas songs.
“A Trans-Siberian Christmas Laser Show,” will be among the holiday-themed presentations at Triton College’s Cernan Earth and Space Center in December. (Cernan Earth and Space Center)
It’s time for “Rusty Rocket’s Last Blast” at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 26.
“The audience joins a class of rocket rookies preparing for their very first trip to the Solar System,” McCall said. The audience will learn how rockets work and a little about rocket history. And such fascinating facts as how long it takes to deliver a pizza to Pluto.
At 7 p.m. on Dec. 27, “Arora” will be featured.
That show is about the aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights. “It’s about the science behind how they’re formed, what causes them, and how we can view them here on earth,” Foster said. He noted that seeing the Northern Lights is on the bucket list of many people. “This is a nice way to do that without booking a flight to Iceland,” he said.
“Habitat Earth” will be the topic at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 29.
Audiences will learn that “all life on earth is connected,” McCall said.
People can learn about “STARS: Powerhouses of the Universe” on Dec. 30 at 1:30 p.m.
“Stars are not only where we get our source of light and heat from our sun but they create almost all of the material that exists in the universe,” Foster said.
The 2026 slate will start with “Dream to Fly,” at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 2.
“The show talks about the human interest in flying from birds to balloons, magic carpets, Chinese lanterns, maple tree seeds,” McCall said. “And the quest for humans to also take to the air.”
“Laser Stranger Things” runs at 3 p.m. on Dec. 29 and 30, and Jan. 2, 2026.
The laser show uses music from season 3 of the popular TV program.
From Nov. 28-Dec. 6, there will be a Supernova Star Sale at Cernan’s Star Store. Almost every item in the store will be sold at 15% off. Items range in price from less than a dollar to $150.
“Lots of tremendous stocking stuffers, typically all earth and space related,” McCall said. There are also toys, t-shirts, mugs, puzzles, scientific experiments, and much, much more.
Cernan Earth and Space Center is at 2000 Fifth Ave. in River Grove. Planetarium program admission is $8 for adults and $4 for seniors ages 55 and over and children 2-17. Cosmic light show tickets are $10 for adults, and $5 for seniors and children. Tickets are for sale only in the gift shop on the day of the show. Information is at 708-456-0300, ext. 3408 or triton.edu/Cernan.

Zelensky ‘Agrees’ To Engage On US Plan To End War, Features Territorial Concessions
Zelensky ‘Agrees’ To Engage On US Plan To End War, Features Territorial Concessions
At this point Axios, the Financial Times, the NY Times, and Ukrainian regional media have all said that the new peace plan being ‘secretly’ pushed by the Trump administration contains significant territorial concessions. Additionally, there are reportedly stipulations that would see Ukraine scale back its armed forces, stop receiving some Western weapons, and stops hosting all foreign troops.
A source has also told RBC-Ukraine that a key provision is that the Ukrainian government commits to a formal refusal for future NATO membership. The same report said things are taken further, as Russian officials and troops would receive amnesty for all wartime crimes.
Additionally, international and US-led sanctions would reportedly be lifted on Moscow, paving the way for Russia’s return to the global economy.
The US-proposed 28-point peace plan would cede control of the eastern Donbas to Russia, but other partially controlled territories like Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions would see concessions made by Russia.
As we featured previously, Kremlin officials have finally said their position is being ‘heard’ – especially given this is the first time Washington appears to be getting serious about pushing territorial concessions.
The plan appears to have been primarily drafted by President Donald Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff and Russian special envoy Kirill Dmitriev – but so far the Zelensky government has expressed dismay that it is being cut out of the process.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has since written on X that achieving a “durable peace will require both sides to agree to difficult but necessary concessions.”
He acknowledged current talks are all about consulting both sides in order to “develop a list of potential ideas for ending this war.”
On Thursday US Army and top Pentagon representatives are in the Ukrainian capital in an effort to pressure the Zelensky government into engaging in talks on the US-Moscow peace plan:
Senior Pentagon officials have arrived in Ukraine to “discuss efforts to end the war” with Russia, the US military has said.
The team, led by US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, held talks with Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko on Thursday morning. They are expected to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky later in the day.
But it remains that Zelensky has throughout the war consistently rejected any proposal which features territorial concessions. He is supported especially be Ukrainian hardliners, both in the military and in parliament.
⚡#BREAKING Bloomberg, citing a source familiar with the matter: Zelensky received signals from the United States that he must accept the agreement reached in consultation with Moscow. pic.twitter.com/Py7hzBipx0
— War Monitor (@WarMonitors) November 20, 2025
However, fresh news headlines say Zelensky has expressed ‘openness’ to working with this framework:
ZELENSKIY: UKRAINE IS READY TO WORK WITH US, EUROPE FOR PEACE
ZELENSKIY SAYS HE AGREED TO WORK ON US DRAFT PLAN TO END WAR
OIL TURNS NEGATIVE AS ZELENSKIY SIGNALS OPENNESS TO PEACE TALKS
But already (and somewhat predictably) European hawks are chiming in negatively, urging Kiev against any ‘compromise’ with Moscow. “EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas warned that for any plan to work, it would need to have Ukrainians and their European allies on board,” BBC writes.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot has seconded this viewpoint, saying “the Ukrainians do not want any form of capitulation.”
