DOJ Misses Deadline For Full Epstein Files Release, Will Instead Stagger ‘To Protect Victims’
The Department of Justice will miss today’s deadline to release the ‘full’ Epstein files to Congress as required under new legislation Trump signed into law last month.
Instead, the Justice Department will release “several hundred thousand” documents today, “and then over the next couple weeks, I expect several hundred thousand more,” Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche told Fox News, citing the need to redact any names or identifying information about witnesses.
“So today is the 30 days when I expect that we’re going to release several hundred thousand documents today. And those documents will come in in all different forms, photographs and other materials associated with, with all of the investigations into, into Mr. Epstein,” Blanche said.
“What we’re doing is we are looking at every single piece of paper that we are going to produce, making sure that every victim, their name, their identity, their story, to the extent it needs to be protected, is completely protected. And so I expect that we’re going to release more documents over the next couple of weeks. So today, several hundred thousand and then over the next couple weeks, I expect several hundred thousand more.”

Rep Thomas Massie, who was part of a bipartisan duo that pushed to force a vote on the Epstein Files Transparency Act, reminded everyone that today’s the day for all records to be released.

On Thursday Massie made a video about today’s deadline, making it clear that there is no ambiguity within the law.
“This is a very unique situation. … This is a case where the president who appointed the attorney general and for whom the attorney general works has signed the law and the ink is not even dry yet on his signature on this law,” Massie said, adding “There’s nothing subject to interpretation.”

“Oversight Democrats will continue to release photographs and documents from the Epstein estate to provide transparency for the American people,” Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) said in a statement. ” As we approach the deadline for the Epstein Files Transparency Act, these new images raise more questions about what exactly the Department of Justice has in its possession. We must end this White House cover-up, and the DOJ must release the Epstein files now.”
The photos show several images where women’s body parts have quotes from the book “Lolita” written on them.
“She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock,” one quote reads.

There are several images of passports and ID cards for women from Ukraine, the Russian Federation, South Africa, Italy, the Czech Republic and Lithuania. All identifying information has been redacted from the photos. After Epstein’s 2006 arrest and jail sentence in Florida for solicitation of a minor, he was alleged to have turned his focus to recruiting young women from Eastern European countries.
A screenshot released Thursday of a text message chat — whose participants are not revealed — seems to involve a discussion about recruiting an 18-year-old woman to meet Epstein.
“I will send u girls now,” the message says. “Maybe someone will be good for J?”
Interestingly, in the world’s most buried lede – the NY Times admits that there’s no evidence that Donald Trump participated in Epstein’s sex trafficking.

Trump administration threatens to withhold $50M from CTA, calling its plan to add police ‘materially deficient’
The Chicago Transit Authority’s plan to boost the number of police officers and K-9 guards on the city’s mass transit system is “materially deficient,” President Donald Trump’s administration said Friday as it threatened to cut the system off from up to $50 million in federal funding.
Trump’s Federal Transit Administration threatened Dec. 8 to withhold federal funding from the CTA if it did not comply with the demands of a “special directive,” including by upping security on the city’s buses and trains. In doing so, the administration invoked the apparently random attack against a 26-year-old woman who was doused in gasoline while riding a Blue Line train last month.
The FTA gave the CTA a tight timeline to comply with its special directive, telling it to submit a “security enhancement plan” within a week and implement it by Dec. 19.
The CTA announced Thursday it would boost security on the transit system starting Friday. The agency said it would increase the number of Chicago police officers in the “Voluntary Special Employment Program” on the transit system from an average of 77 per day to 120 per day. K-9 security staffing, for which the CTA contracts privately, will also increase from an average of 172 canine security guards per day to 188 per day.
But on Friday, Trump’s FTA said it wasn’t satisfied with the CTA’s plan.
In a letter to acting CTA President Nora Leerhsen, Trump’s Federal Transit Administrator, Marcus Molinaro, said the plan “fails to meet the need for immediate, measurable corrective action to maintain a safe operating environment for workers and passengers.”
Specifically, Molinaro wrote, the CTA’s plan did not target decreases of major assaults against transit workers and customers for the first three months of 2026. “By proposing flat targets for the entire first quarter of the Dec. 15 Plan, CTA has failed to set targets showing reductions for ‘each’ month as ordered,” Molinaro wrote.
Molinaro also said the CTA’s plan “never targets a reduction of more than one assault per month in any given category, and in many categories and months, CTA targets zero reductions.”
In a news release, the FTA also implied the increase of Voluntary Special Employment Program officers was insufficient, writing that the “program is one small component of CTA’s overall security strategy that does not meaningfully contribute to an overall increase in security hours across CTA’s system.” Officers in the VESP program volunteer to work shifts on the CTA on their days off, and supplement the Chicago Police Department’s public transportation section and district police officers.
Spokespeople for the CTA did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday morning.
The FTA gave the CTA 90 days to submit a revised security plan or lose a quarter of the its federal funding under the Urbanized Area Formula program.
It’s not the first time the Trump administration, which has repeatedly used violence on public transit as a political cudgel against blue cities, has threatened to withhold money from the CTA.
In September, Trump’s Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy wrote a letter to the CTA asking it to lay out plans to reduce crime and fare evasion on the system or risk losing funding. The Trump administration has made similar threats to mass transit agencies in the Democratic-led cities of New York, Los Angeles, Boston and Washington, D.C.
Acting CTA President Leerhsen defended the agency’s safety practices in a response to Duffy at the time.
The Trump administration has also put more than $2 billion in federal dollars for the CTA’s planned Red Line Extension and Red and Purple Modernization project on ice, though it did so citing the agency’s diversity requirements for contractors, not safety.

Law & Order column: Teen ordered machine gun conversion kits
A Lake County teen is in the custody of juvenile authorities after police said he ordered kits to convert firearms into automatic machine guns.
The 17-year-old, whose identity was not disclosed because he is being charged as a juvenile, was taken into custody on Wednesday after the firearm conversion kits were delivered to a neighboring home near the youth’s residence in the Winthrop Harbor area.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Group said it learned that the youth had ordered the kits from outside the U.S. and was having them shipped to the neighbor, presumably to obscure the youth’s ties to the shipment.
After the teen retrieved the parts from the neighbor on Wednesday, police took the teen into custody. Police think he planned to sell the kits for a profit. He was charged with unlawful possession of machine gun parts.
There is no evidence the neighbor was involved, police said.
“It is troubling to see such a young person involved in the purchase and potential distribution of machine gun conversion devices,” Sheriff John Idleburg said. “These devices endanger everyone and stopping their spread is a responsibility we take seriously. I am grateful for the collaboration we have with our local and federal law enforcement agencies and proud of the work of our SIG and SWAT teams.”
String of burglaries
Two men are facing charges after police say they committed a string of burglaries across the Lake County area.
Matthew Ristick, 18, of Chicago, and Kevin Miller, 26, of Arlington Heights, were charged with residential burglary after they were arrested earlier this month.
Police said they may be responsible for burglaries in Lake County, Lincolnshire, Gurnee and Highland Park.
The Lincolnshire Police Department, Highland Park Police Department, Lake County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force reviewed surveillance video and other evidence that indicated Ristick and Miller were responsible for the burglaries, the sheriff’s office said.
Jail passes inspection
The Lake County jail has passed its most recent inspection and audit conducted by the Illinois Department of Corrections, the sheriff’s office said this week.
The annual inspection took place in September and included a review of 330 categories.
Auditors documented several achievements and innovations at the jail, including security measures intended to stop contraband from entering the facility, along with vocational, educational and substance abuse programs aimed at helping inmates become more productive members of society.
The jail received more than 4,800 new inmates through the end of November, and has an average daily population of 597. Staff have transported inmates to 11,500 hearings and other court-ordered trips, while serving more than 450,000 meals to inmates.
“The result of our annual inspection highlights the hard work of our correctional officers and staff, as well as our continued investment in safety, security, and rehabilitation,” Sheriff John Idleburg said. “From maintaining full compliance with security checks to expanding programming and implementing safeguards to prevent contraband, our team is focused on running a jail that serves both public safety and long-term community well-being.”

A jury in Milwaukee this week proved that it takes more than a robe to act like a judge. On Thursday, Judge Hannah Dugan was found guilty of the most serious count brought against her in a case that captivated many in the nation. Dugan famously told a fellow judge to wear her robe in the hallway to confront federal officers seeking to arrest a suspect.
A jury found Dugan guilty of obstruction in helping an illegal migrant evade arrest by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers. She was acquitted of the misdemeanor charge of concealing Flores Ruiz.
Judge Dugan was lionized by the left, including attorneys and politicians, for her effort to facilitate the escape of Eduardo Flores-Ruiz. She had a prominent legal team, including former Solicitor General Paul Clement and former U.S. Attorney Steve Biskupic. Retired Supreme Court Justice Janine Geske agreed to be the trustee over a large defense fund.
This week, we discussed how Dugan’s colleague Judge Kristela Cervera delivered a heavy blow to her defense in testifying how Dugan pulled her into the dispute with the agents and how she acted improperly in the matter.
Cervera said that Dugan specifically told her to keep her robe on and that she was reluctant to do so: “I didn’t want to walk in the hallway with my robe on.” Dugan, however, allegedly wanted the agents to see them in their robes as a sign of authority.
She said that the agent remained respectful but that Dugan was getting upset in the confrontation: “Her irritation seemed to progress to anger. I thought she could have been a little more diplomatic.”
That coincides with the testimony of FBI Special Agent Jeffrey Baker, who stated, “I would say angry is the best way to describe it.”
Likewise, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer Joseph Zuraw stated that Dugan ordered him to “get out” of the public hallway and told him to go to the chief judge’s office. She then allegedly helped the suspect escape through a side door.
Cervera also testified that she was “shocked” by Dugan’s later conduct and that “judges should not be helping defendants evade arrest.” She added, “I was mortified. I thought that someone may think that I was part of some of what happened.”
Cervera said she was shocked by attorneys praising her for helping Flores-Ruiz escape.
She described attorneys pumping their fists and telling her, “You go, Judge,” and saying, “Judge, you’re ‘goated’ now.”
She said that she avoided Dugan but ran into her in an elevator. She noted that Cervera told her she was “in the dog house” with the Chief Judge for trying to help Flores-Ruiz.
Cervera delivered a particularly devastating line before the jury in stating categorically that “Judges shouldn’t help criminal defendants evade arrest.”
The testimony supported the allegation that Dugan knowingly sought to help Flores-Ruiz and that her actions were outside her role as a judge in the courthouse.
We discussed how Dugan could not have had a better jury pool in the liberal district or a more fortunate choice as presiding judge. Indeed, I previously wrote that it would take jury nullification to acquit Dugan on the strong case against her. If that was the strategy, it collapsed under the testimony of Cervera and others.
Her fate may have been set by her decision not to testify. It also likely reflected how damning the evidence was against her. If she took the stand, she would have been forced to address glaring inconsistencies in her position as well as public comments that she made before trial.
I previously wrote about my surprise that she posted a videotape statement on her actions and how she was the champion for the rule of law. The statement included assertions that she would send defendants through the door whenever she felt it was warranted.
The jury did not agree with Democratic politicians and pundits who heralded her actions. MSNOW regular Norm Eisen and the executive chair of Democracy Defenders Fund declared, “this case is a five-alarm fire for our democracy and one of its foundations: judicial independence. Prosecuting a judge for how she runs her courtroom is outrageous and unlawful.”
Abbe Lowell, who represented Hunter Biden, declared
“Judge Dugan’s arrest and prosecution are a blatant attack on judicial independence. By targeting a state judge for her courtroom management, this Administration is signaling its alarming willingness to coerce state courts into executing its federal immigration agenda – an unacceptable assault on federalism and a grave threat to the public’s trust in our court system. Protecting judges from such intimidation is paramount to upholding the rule of law for every American.”
Monica Isham, a circuit judge in Sawyer County, not only defended Judge Hannah Dugan in an email to other state judges but added that she “has no intention of allowing anyone to be taken out of my courtroom by [Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents] and sent to a concentration camp.”
Dozens of judges signed statements in support of Dugan, including Judge Michael Luttig, U.S. Circuit Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit (Ret.).
I strongly disagreed with those views, excusing the clearly injudicious and unlawful conduct of Judge Dugan.
Ultimately, Judge Lynn Adelman, a liberal long-standing jurist on the court, rejected half-baked arguments of judicial immunity in such actions. Twelve jurors in Milwaukee then rejected all of the atmospherics and bluster in ruling according to the law.
They did what Dugan did not: they followed the rule of law rather than any personal or political impulse.
Dugan could now face up to five years in prison, though such a sentence is highly unlikely in her case.
