It’s not just sex: Alcohol consumption has dropped by 54%, with youth (18 to 34) drinking falling ANOTHER 9% just between 2023 and 2025.

[R]esearch from the National Institute on Drug Abuse shows that lifetime drinking, past month drinking, and past year drinking among young people began to decline around the year 2000. That means that such declines have especially impacted Generation Z, defined as anyone born from 1997 to 2012, and some Millennials, born between 1981 and 1996.

“It is becoming clear that, for whatever reasons, today’s younger generations are just less interested in alcohol and are more likely than older generations to see it as risky for their health and to participate in periods of abstinence like Dry January,” said National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism George F. Koob in a statement.
Maybe that’s not coincidental. Perhaps there’s a causal link (as famed philosopher Jimmy Buffett suggested). Maybe, just like peanut butter and jelly are complementary products, sex and alcohol are, too.
Koob seemed to agree with Buffett:
Another contributing factor has to do with the changing socialization patterns of younger generations. “Alcohol tends to be a social drug, even for young people, so part of the decline in underage drinking could be related to less in-person socializing,” said Koob. On average, the amount of time people spent with friends in-person decreased from 30 hours a month in 2003 to 10 hours a month in 2020, according to the U.S. Surgeon General’s advisory on the epidemic of loneliness. That decline was especially marked for people aged 15 to 24.
Back in 1991, more than half — 54.1% of all high school students — were sexually active. (The other 45.9% lied about it.)
By 2007, the number fell to 47.8%. Four years later, it dropped again to 43%. By 2017, it was just 39.5%.
As of 2023, it’s 31.6%.
What’s going on with kids today, with their wild, out-of-control abstinence and crazy teetotalling?!
It’s one of the strangest, most inexplicable cultural shifts in recent memory. I was certainly blindsided: I figured our sex drive was so biologically ingrained, it would never go away!
But it has. And with it, so has the U.S. birthrate: It’s now at a 40-year low.
We need a birthrate of 2.1 babies per woman to maintain our population. We’re currently at 1.6.
For decades, our shrinking birthrate was masked by immigration growth. In 1991, the U.S. population was 253 million. By 2025, it grew to 343.6 million.
Since 2020, immigration has been the #1 driver of American population growth.
With the new crackdown on illegal immigration, we’re flirting with our first-ever population decline. And it’s not just an American phenomenon — all over the world, birthrates have collapsed.
At least one geopolitical strategist and demographic expert predicts it’ll lead to the end of China within the next 10 years:
And three months ago, the Chinese government updated the data. They’re now reporting a 70% drop in the birthrate since 2017. That’s a faster decline than what was suffered by the Jews of Europe during the Holocaust.
And the Shanghai Academy of Sciences, which is kind of the Wiseman organization of statisticians in China that interprets all the data, says that this is still wrong. They estimate that the Chinese system has overestimated its population by over 100 million people. With all of the missing millions being people who would’ve been born during the one-child era, which is a rather sterile way of saying that all the missing millions are under age 40 suggesting that these yellow bars don’t even exist.
China has, at most, 10 years before it faces national dissolution. They will not be a unified industrialized nation state 10 years from now. [emphasis added]

So why aren’t young people drinking, hooking up, and having babies? How the heck did we go from Free Love to no love — and a hookup culture where nobody hooks up?
As with most cultural trends, there’s more than one root cause.
Smartphones are a contributing factor. At first, many experts predicted that dating apps and matchmaking sites would increase sexual activity. You could meet the next great love of your life while sitting in your bathrobe, drinking a cup of coffee, and scrolling on your phone. What could be easier than that?
But it sure hasn’t worked out that way.
Perhaps it’s analysis paralysis: In a world with near-limitless dating options, it’s tough to make a decision and stick to it. And if social media has skewed your perception of reality, perhaps none of your real-life options are ever as appealing as the Photoshopped fantasies you see on Instagram.
Or, perhaps, the BILLIONS of free “adult content” sites, videos, and stimuli are all you need to satisfy your sex drive. Why subject yourself to a real-life boyfriend/girlfriend and risk having your heart broken (or, since #MeToo, your reputation destroyed) when you can fantasize about someone different every single day?
I’ve got two teenage boys. I’ve heard how they talk around their friends: The fear of being “outed” for something they didn’t even do is a very real thing.
You’re always one TikTok upload away from being a social pariah.
COVID could be a factor. We normalized being alone. The 15-year-old who wasn’t allowed to leave his house, go to school, or play with friends in 2020 is now 21. For a kid like that, hanging out in a bar with strangers is weird and creepy.

An additional factor might be the shift from alcohol to marijuana. We’ve gone from a drinking culture to a pot-smoking culture, with more Americans consuming marijuana than alcohol.
In 1992, fewer than 1 million Americans used marijuana daily.
By 2012, it was 6 million.
Today, it’s 18 million.
The alcohol culture was ultra-extroverted: You went to bars, attended parties, met new people… and made horrible decisions ’round closing time. (And how!)
The marijuana culture is introverted: It’s something you do alone to placate your boredom.

The final reason why kids aren’t having sex may be the biggest — but fortunately, it’s also the one we have the most societal control over: Sex leads to babies, and babies are REALLY expensive.
That wasn’t true when we were a rural society. If you were a farmer in the 1800s, kids were an economic asset: They were free labor that helped you be more productive.
The more, the merrier.
But in urban environments, kids are an economic liability. Kids cost $23,000 a year — and by age 18, that’s $414,000!
Because of sky-high housing costs, the average age of a first-time homebuyer is 40 years old. For female homeowners, that’s not the best math for having babies.
If they can’t even afford their own home until they’re 40, how the heck are they ever gonna reach 2.1 kids?
Government policies that lower housing costs would go a long way to reversing this trend. We want young people to be able to afford their first home when they’re still in their 30s.
In the 1980s, the average age of a first-time homebuyer was the late 20s. (Made it a helluva lot easier to have multiple children.)

There is no magic bullet solution, alas. No single law or policy change will reverse this no-nookie trend. But that’s to be expected; a problem with multiple causes requires multiple solutions.
It can’t be any one thing; it must be many different things.
Because, if it turns out the biggest problem of all is “adult content” on the Internet, things are about to get so much worse. With AI advances and video generation, we’re rapidly approaching the day when a teenage kid will be able to describe ANY fantasy to his AI — and instantly receive a video that’s specifically tailored to his/her tastes. Teens will even be able to hear their AI fantasy screaming their names.
That’ll enhance the illusion of intimacy and personal relationships. It’ll make their digital fantasies increasingly indistinguishable from reality.
Which will ultimately leave them lonelier than ever.

NUEVA YORK (AP) — La temporada de impuestos en Estados Unidos ya está en marcha y tiene hasta el 15 de abril para presentar su declaración ante el Servicio Interno de Impuestos (IRS, por sus siglas en inglés). Para evitar el estrés de la fecha límite que se acerca, basta con organizarse lo antes posible.
“No espere hasta el último minuto, pero tampoco se apresure”, aconseja Tom O’Saben, director de contenido fiscal y relaciones gubernamentales de la Asociación Nacional de Profesionales de Impuestos.
Reunir todos los documentos, inscribirse en el depósito directo y conservar copias de sus declaraciones de impuestos son algunas de las mejores prácticas a la hora de prepararse para completar sus impuestos. Este año, debido al proyecto de ley republicano de impuestos y gasto que el presidente Donald Trump firmó durante el verano, hay nuevas deducciones que los contribuyentes deberían conocer.
Entre ellas figuran no pagar impuestos sobre las propinas, no pagar impuestos sobre las horas extra, deducciones por intereses de préstamos para automóviles y deducciones para personas que tenían 65 años o más al 31 de diciembre, explicó Miguel Burgos, contador público certificado y experto de TurboTax.
El reembolso promedio el año pasado fue de 3.167 dólares. Este año, analistas han proyectado que podría ser 1.000 dólares más alto, gracias a cambios en la ley tributaria. Tyler Reddick wins NASCAR’s Daytona 500 for Michael Jordan-owned 23XI Racing
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Tyler Reddick won the Daytona 500 in a car owned by Michael Jordan when Chase Elliott crashed as he and Reddick were battling for the win.
Reddick, in a Toyota for 23XI Racing, led only one lap on Sunday: the one to the checkered flag for the team owned by the NBA Hall of Famer and three-time Daytona 500 winner Denny Hamlin.
“Just incredible how it all played out. Just true Daytona madness,” Reddick said. “I’ve already lost my voice from screaming. Never thought I’d be Daytona 500 champion.”
Neither did Jordan, who met Reddick in victory lane for a bear hug and the two then jointly hoisted the Harley J. Earl trophy into the air. Jordan, who turns 63 on Tuesday, will get a Daytona 500 ring for his birthday and made it known in victory lane he wears a size 13.
“It feels like I won a championship, but until I get my ring, I won’t even know,” Jordan said.
It was a celebration that included multiple stars of NASCAR as Reddick is teammates with Bubba Wallace, who went to victory lane in tears after dominating a huge chunk of the race but finished 10th.
Jordan wrapped his arms around Wallace from behind and spoke closely into Wallace’s ear in a brief speech of encouragement.
“I don’t want my emotions to take away from the monumental day they just accomplished. Happy birthday, MJ. That’s a massive birthday present,” Wallace said. “I thought this was our week, the best 500 I’ve ever had, and come up short, sucks.

Hamlin was also in victory lane after finishing 31st and falling short in his bid to become the third four-time Daytona 500 winner.
Hamlin, who drives for Joe Gibbs Racing, was involved in the final caution when he and teammate Christopher Bell collided with nine laps remaining. It set up the final push to the finish over the final four laps.
Elliott had control on the final lap after leader Carson Hocevar was spun off the track and it appeared the son of NASCAR Hall of Famer Bill Elliott would finally win his first Daytona 500.
Instead, Reddick made a huge surge, hit Elliott to cause Elliott to crash and sailed past to take Jordan to the Daytona International Speedway victory lane.
Jordan was the face of the December federal antitrust lawsuit that NASCAR settled on the ninth day of trial. The settlement changed the revenue-sharing model in the United States’ top motorsports series.
The victory marked a Daytona sweep for three team owners heavily involved in the trial. Bob Jenkins, who joined 23XI in suing NASCAR, opened the weekend with a victory when Chandler Smith won the Truck Series opener on Friday night for Front Row Motorsports.
Richard Childress, who testified on behalf of 23XI and Front Row and was the subject of disparaging text messages by since-departed NASCAR chairman Steve Phelps, was the winning team owner Saturday when Austin Hill won.
Then came “The Great American Race” and Jordan and Hamlin, the two front-facing litigants got their first Daytona 500 victory.
Former race winners Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Joey Logano finished second and third as Toyota, Chevrolet and Ford each placed a driver on the podium. Elliott wound up fourth and sat dejected and in disbelief on the outside wall of the track after climbing from his car.

US military boards another oil tanker in Indian Ocean after tracking it from the Caribbean
WASHINGTON — U.S. military forces boarded another sanctioned tanker in the Indian Ocean after tracking the vessel from the Caribbean Sea in an effort to target illicit oil connected to Venezuela, the Pentagon said Sunday.
Venezuela had faced U.S. sanctions on its oil for several years, relying on a shadow fleet of falsely flagged tankers to smuggle crude into global supply chains. President Donald Trump ordered a quarantine of sanctioned tankers in December to pressure then-President Nicolás Maduro before Maduro was apprehended in January during an American military operation.
Several tankers fled the Venezuelan coast in the wake of the raid, including the ship that was boarded in the Indian Ocean overnight. The Defense Department said in a post on X that U.S. forces boarded the Veronica III, conducting “a right-of-visit, maritime interdiction and boarding.”
“The vessel tried to defy President Trump’s quarantine — hoping to slip away,” the Pentagon said. “We tracked it from the Caribbean to the Indian Ocean, closed the distance, and shut it down.”

The Veronica III is a Panamanian-flagged vessel under U.S. sanctions related to Iran, according to the website of the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control. The Panama Maritime Authority said Sunday in a brief statement that the ship was no longer registered there and had been canceled in December 2024.
The Veronica III left Venezuela on Jan. 3, the same day as Maduro’s capture, with nearly 2 million barrels of crude and fuel oil, TankerTrackers.com posted Sunday on X.
“Since 2023, she’s been involved with Russian, Iranian and Venezuelan oil,” the organization said.
Samir Madani, co-founder of TankerTrackers.com, told The Associated Press in January that his organization used satellite imagery and surface-level photos to document that at least 16 tankers left the Venezuelan coast in contravention of the quarantine.
The Trump administration has been seizing tankers as part of its broader efforts to take control of the Venezuela’s oil. The Pentagon did not say in the post whether the Veronica III was formally seized and placed under U.S. control, and later told the AP in an email that it had no additional information to provide beyond that post.
Last week, the U.S. military boarded a different tanker in the Indian Ocean, the Aquila II. The ship was being held while its ultimate fate was decided by the United States, according to a defense official who spoke last week on condition of anonymity to discuss ongoing decision-making.

Trump Admin Launches Investigation Into Texas’s Muslim-Only Community Project

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is investigating entities involved in a planned Muslim housing development in Texas due to concerns the initiative may have engaged in discrimination based on religion and nationality, the department said in a Feb. 13 statement.
HUD’s probe will look into “The Meadow” project, formally called EPIC City or the East Plano Islamic Center, for potential violations of the Fair Housing Act, according to the department. The Act prohibits direct providers of housing, such as real estate companies, from instituting discriminatory practices that make housing unavailable to people based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or family status.
The department’s investigation, conducted by its Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity, will cover EPIC Real Properties, Inc., and Community Capital Partners, LP, which are involved in the development program.
According to the department, it has “received a complaint from the Texas Workforce Commission detailing a large-scale pattern of religious discriminatory conduct by the developers of The Meadow.”
The project’s marketing materials promote the initiative as a “Muslim community” that will represent the “epicenter of Islam in America.” There are allegations of discriminatory financial terms in the project requiring lot owners to subsidize a mosque and Islamic educational centers, HUD said.
Another allegation is that the initiative employs a biased sales mechanism consisting of a two-tier lottery system for lot sales, granting exclusive access to Tier One buyers.
“It is deeply concerning the East Plano Islamic Center may have violated the Fair Housing Act and participated in religious discrimination,” HUD Secretary Scott Turner said.
“As HUD Secretary, I will not stand for illegal religious or national origin discrimination in housing and will ensure that this matter receives a thorough investigation so that this community is open to all Texans.”
The Epoch Times reached out to the East Plano Islamic Center and Community Capital Partners for comment, and did not receive a response by publication time. The Epoch Times was unable to reach EPIC Real Properties.
Texas Gov. Gregg Abbott extended support to HUD Secretary Scott Turner regarding the investigation, according to a Feb. 13 statement from the governor’s office.
The state has taken multiple actions over the past year against the EPIC City project. In April 2025, Abbott said the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality found the entities involved in the project had not obtained required permits or authorizations to move ahead with development.
In November 2025, the Texas Securities Board sent a letter to the state’s Deputy Attorney General for Legal Counsel, writing that Community Capital Partners and its personnel could have “solicited unauthorized sales, engaged in fraud, and made materially misleading statements concerning securities.”
In addition, Texas Rangers are investigating the EPIC project and any affiliated entities for potential criminal activities, the governor’s office said.
“Last year, I directed the Texas Workforce Commission to investigate EPIC and any affiliated entities for violations of the Texas Fair Housing Act. After a thorough investigation, Commission staff later filed a detailed complaint, which HUD has now accepted for federal investigation,” Abbott said.
“I support HUD Secretary Scott Turner’s efforts to hold EPIC and its affiliates accountable to our anti-discrimination laws. Together, we will hold anyone involved in violating the law accountable. The Meadow will remain just that—an empty field.”
In October 2025, the office of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said the AG had uncovered illegal activities by EPIC City developers and sought a referral from the Texas State Securities Board to file a lawsuit on the matter.
In December 2025, Paxton filed a complaint against the East Plano Islamic Center, Community Capital Partners, and other parties involved in the EPIC City project, alleging violations of the state’s securities laws.
Defendants denied any wrongdoing, with the developers as well as Muslim groups criticizing the legal challenge as Islamophobic.
Meanwhile, local residents voiced concerns about Sharia law and radicalization among communities that they believe may not integrate into American culture.
During a press briefing in April 2025, Mustafaa Carroll, the interim executive director of the Council on American–Islamic Relations (CAIR), Texas, Austin, and Dallas-Fort Worth, supported the EPIC City initiative while criticizing authorities.
“They have chosen to abuse their power by launching groundless investigations against EPIC, blocking funerals, intimidating children and families, and violating their rights to constitutionally protected religious expression,” Carroll said.
Texas has previously taken action against CAIR. In November 2025, Abbot signed a proclamation designating the group as a Foreign Terrorist Organization and a Transnational Criminal Organization. The same month, the council filed a federal lawsuit against Abbot over the designation.
