A deputy with the Porter County Sheriff’s Department is in stable condition after being struck by a vehicle Sunday afternoon while responding to a snowstorm-related crash, according to a release.
Sgt. Joshua Crayne, who joined the department in 2017, was transported by ambulance to a regional hospital after being injured, according to a release from Sgt. Ben McFalls, public information officer for the sheriff’s department.
Around 2 p.m. Sunday, Crayne was investigating a slide-off on Ind. 49 south of U.S. 6 when he was struck by a vehicle, according to McFalls.
The Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene and, according to a release from that department, Crayne sustained serious injuries and was transported to a trauma center.
Ind. 49 was closed for several hours to allow the Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team to investigate the scene, according to the Liberty Township release.
“Sheriff (Jeff) Balon appreciated all Agencies that assisted during this incident and is thankful to God that Sgt. Crayne is doing as well as he is,” McFalls said in his release.
The crash is under investigation by Indiana State Police.
