Three people were taken into custody Thursday after an armed home invasion Wednesday in Homer Glen and a second armed robbery Thursday afternoon in Lemont, the Will County sheriff’s department said.
The Lemont robbery occurred shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday in the 1200 block of Coventry Drive in Lemont, sheriff’s police said.
The vehicle suspected in the robbery was a black Acura and matched the description of the people and car used in the Homer Glen home invasion, police said.
Detectives with the Will County sheriff’s department and other law enforcement agencies began searching for the car and reviewing license plate reader camera data.
Officers with the Joliet Police Department found the car and attempted a traffic stop, police said. Three people ran from the car and officers began searching the area, eventually taking the suspects into custody, police said.
Charges were pending Thursday night against the three, who police said have extensive criminal histories, including prior weapons-related offenses. One of the suspects was taken to a hospital for evaluation, police said.
Two firearms were recovered, police said.
The home invasion in Homer Glen occurred shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday, after a 73-year-old woman was returning home from grocery shopping and pulling her car into the garage in the 16800 block of South Deer Path, sheriff’s police said.
The woman was approached by a man wearing a black hoodie who was holding a gun, sheriff’s police said.
A second man exited a dark-colored Acura reported stolen out of Chicago and was following her, the release said.
The men forced the woman inside her home, sat her in a chair and bound her wrists and ankles, police said. The men stole a credit card from her purse, demanded a PIN number and withdrew $2,000 from the victim’s account at a bank in Orland Park, police said.
The woman was able to free herself about 20 minutes later and sought help, police said.
Investigators said the woman was targeted due to her age.
Homer Glen Mayor Christina Neitzke-Troike shared on social media that the woman was fine, rather shaken, but not injured. The woman said the intruders forced her into her home, tied her arms and legs with rope/telephone cords, rummaged through her home and threatened to take her life if she did not give the correct credit card PIN numbers, Neitzke-Troike said.
