Man injured in shooting at Aurora gas station, police say

A man was injured in a shooting in the early hours of Sunday morning at a gas station in Aurora, according to the Aurora Police Department.

At around 3:44 a.m. on Sunday, officers responded to a report of a gunshot victim at a Mobil gas station at 300 S. Broadway, the police department said in a news release on Monday. Upon arrival, officers found a man, 49, suffering from multiple upper-body gunshot wounds, the release said.

Paramedics from the Aurora Fire Department took the man to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, the news release said. He remains in stable condition, and no other injuries were reported, police said.

Detectives from the police department’s Investigations Division also responded and began investigating the circumstances of the incident, the release said. Evidence technicians also processed the scene and collected forensic evidence.

Preliminary information indicates that the man was pumping gas outside his vehicle and was approached by a man wearing a gray winter coat, brown pants and brown shoes, who then shot the man pumping gas and fled eastbound, police said.

Aurora Police Department K-9 units responded and conducted a search in the area, but the suspect was not located, the release said. The investigation remains ongoing.

The department is asking anyone with information to contact the Aurora Police Department Investigations Division at 630-256-5500. Individuals can also submit tips anonymously to Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at 630-892-1000 or via its website at www.p3tips.com/135.
