Three firefighters and one person were injured following a fire Monday night at an apartment building in the West Town neighborhood, the Chicago Fire Department said.
Officials said the fire broke out in a second floor apartment at a building in the 800 block of North May Street where three firefighters were among four people who suffered injuries surrounding the fire.
Larry Merritt, a spokesman for the fire department said the firefighters were injured due to slipping and falling on ice at the scene. Their injuries were not due to the fire, he said, and they were taken to area hospitals for minor injuries.
Police said two adults were displaced, and an adult suffered a head injury. That person was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and reported in good condition.
As of Tuesday morning, the fire was reported extinguished.
