A Garfield Park man is facing charges in the fatal shooting of 44-year-old Raymond S. Harrison and the serious injury of a second, 23-year-old man about three weeks after a fight aboard the CTA Pink Line escalated to gunfire, Chicago police said.
Pedro Villareal, 34, is accused of murder and attempted murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, per a Monday news release. Villarreal was also cited for fare evasion on the CTA, the release said.
Shortly before 1:30 a.m. Dec 23, Harrison, of North Lawndale, and the other man were on a train in the first block of North Wells Street when they became involved in an argument with a man now alleged to be Villarreal, who was armed with a knife. The argument turned into a fight, and one of the two men pulled out a gun. Soon after, Villarreal gained control of the weapon and fired at the men, police said at the time.
Cicero police arrested Villarreal in the 1200 block of South 49th Avenue Saturday, police said. He was set to appear at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse for a detention hearing Monday morning.
