Each holiday season, the village of Glenview told residents in its weekly newsletter, it allows individuals and groups to set up holiday displays in a temporary public forum area just west of Village Hall.

The displays, which can be religious or nonreligious, are created and paid for by the private individuals and groups.

This year’s display contained three elements. The first, a “Keep Christ in Christmas” sign and Nativity scene, was sponsored by Rev. John J. Dussman and the Glenview Knights of Columbus.

The second, an electric menorah, bears a sign saying it’s the work of Chabad of Glenview and Morton Grove.

The third element, a sign wishing readers a merry winter solstice, contains the name of the Freedom From Religion Foundation.
