A man has been found guilty of a 2022 fatal shooting in Waukegan, according to Lake County prosecutors.
A jury found Jamonte Davis, 32, guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Sergio Berrios.
Berrios, 42, was fatally shot on the morning of Oct. 3, 2022, as he sat in his car in a driveway in the 1300 block of Chestnut Street.
Police officers said Berrios was pronounced dead at the scene after being shot multiple times.
Police identified Davis based on surveillance videos showing him wearing pants with a distinctive logo along with gray boots.
Authorities said that before the shooting, Davis went to Chicago, where he picked up a stolen Dodge Charger. Authorities said footage showed Davis getting out of the Charger wearing a mask and the distinctive clothing, and then firing multiple times at the car with Berrios inside.
The shooter lost two cell phones as he fled, and authorities were able to link the devices to Davis.
Davis faces a minimum of 40 years in prison. He is due back in court on Jan. 12.
